Hawks deny reports that they’ve fired general manager Wes Wilcox
Wilcox was promoted to general manager in 2015.

ESPN.com’s Jeff Goodman and Marc Spears reported Wednesday afternoon Atlanta had fired its general manager. The report came shortly after the Hawks lost their first-round playoff series to the Washington Wizards in six games.
Wilcox was the same Hawks executive who was disciplined for making a racially charged comment during a season-ticket holder’s event in January, joking he had “a black wife and three mixed kids, so I’m used to people being angry and argumentative.”
Atlanta entered the regular season with heightened expectations after inking Dwight Howard to a three-year, $70.5 million contract. But the Hawks fell flat and nearly blew the team up midseason. Instead, they settled for trading Kyle Korver to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for Mike Dunleavy and a future first-round pick.
Atlanta signed both Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schroder to four-year, $70 million contracts last summer. The market dictated Bazemore’s contract as a coveted three-and-D wing in last year’s free agent frenzy.
Wilcox was GM, however, when the Hawks drafted Taurean Prince 12th overall in last year’s draft. Prince impressed in his rookie season, emerging in the playoffs to average 11.2 points and 5.3 rebounds per game against the Wizards.
Wilcox was promoted to team general manager in June 2015. The Hawks went 91-73 over the past two seasons.
