Kentucky Derby odds 2017: Classic Empire and Always Dreaming lead the board

Which horse should be the favorite, however, is a matter of opinion.

The official morning line odds for the 2017 Kentucky Derby were announced Wednesday at Churchill Downs, with Classic Empire made a 4-1 favorite to win the 143rd Run for the Roses. Always Dreaming and McCraken were set at 5-1, with Irish War Cry rounding out the top tier of contenders at 5-1.

The “fastest two minutes in sports” can be viewed on NBC with a 6:46 p.m. post time. You can stream it live online at NBC Sports Live Extra if you happen to be away from a television at the time.

However, Matt Battaglia’s official morning line odds aren’t the only ones to be found. Our friends at OddsShark have created their own Kentucky Derby odds that look a bit different.

Handicapper Michael Dempsey gave his favorite to Always Dreaming at +400 (4/1 odds), with Classic Empire at +425 (17/4 odds). McCraken and Irish War Cry were both given +650 (13/2 odds).

Meanwhile at Bovada, the difference is split by placing both Always Dreaming and Classic Empire at 4/1 odds. Irish War Cry is at 13/2 and McCraken at 7/1 there.
