Tapwrit captured the 149th running of the Belmont Stakes on Saturday, winning the third leg of the triple crown.

It was a wide-open field at Belmont Park, with Kentucky Derby winner Always Dreaming and Preakness winner Cloud Computing not in the 11-horse field. Tapwrit overcame pre-race favorite Irish War Cry down the stretch to capture the third leg of the triple crown.
For winning the 1½-mile race, Tapwrit takes home $800,000 in prize money. Irish War Cry wins $280,000 for finishing in second place, and one-eyed horse Patch gets $150,000 for third place. Gormley gets $100,000 for fourth place. The total prize money for the Belmont Stakes is $1.5 million.
