Michigan NASCAR weather forecast: When could showers or storms be a problem?

While a shower or storm is possible over the weekend, the weather forecast for Michigan International Speedway is not all bad.

There are chances of showers and storms at Michigan International Speedway but will it cause delays?

This weekend for NASCAR at Michigan International Speedway, the weather forecast has more bark than bite. Yes a passing shower or storm is possible each day, but neither day is a wash and it looks like there is more dry time than wet, especially on Sunday.

Friday will feature annoying pop-up variety showers and storms. These are the hardest to predict because, as meteorologists, we just don’t know when or where any particular storm will form. Most of practice and qualifying looks dry, but it only takes one storm to crash the party.

The wettest part of the weekend will be Saturday afternoon and into the overnight, so fans camping at the track will want to pay attention. Some storms late Saturday into Saturday night could be severe with hail and strong damaging winds.

Odds of racing Saturday’s Xfinity Irish Hills 250 are 60 to 70 percent.

While we can’t rule out a chance of rain on Sunday, most of the activity will be in the morning, and the afternoon is looking drier. The odds of racing Sunday’s NASCAR Monster Energy Cup FireKeepers Casino 400 are around 85 percent.
