Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr could potentially make a return for Game 2 of the team’s NBA Finals matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, according to ESPN.com’s Marc Spears.
Steve Kerr could be healthy enough to coach in Game 2 of NBA Finals, per report
Kerr has been out since Game 2 of the Warriors’ first-round series against Portland due to pain from his back surgery.

Spears cited a source who said, “He may coach Sunday. He’s feeling better.”
Kerr last coached Game 2 of the Warriors’ first-round playoff series against the Portland Trail Blazers before symptoms stemming from a botched 2015 back surgery resulted in “excruciating pain.”
Golden State’s head coach missed the first 43 games of the 2015-16 season due to a cerebrospinal fluid leak that was a result of a nicked spinal cord during his first back surgery in July 2015. He had a second surgery in September 2015 to fix the first, but the pain had returned and become unbearable in this year’s playoffs.
“It’s a pain thing and the repercussions of pain. I’ve been dealing with it for almost two years,” Kerr said, according to the San Jose Mercury-News’ Tim Kawakami, when asked how he’ll know when he’s ready to return. “I’ve been able to deal with it for the most part. It’s not a cognitive thing. It’s not even really an energy thing. It’s a pain thing.”
Kerr has been sidelined ever since, with lead assistant coach Mike Brown taking the reins throughout the postseason. The Warriors remain undefeated at 13-0 in the playoffs after their Game 1 victory over the Cavaliers on Thursday.
Game 2 tips off Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
