Derek Carr is excited to spend his $125 million contract on Chick-fil-A

Derek Carr is now the highest-paid player in NFL history. He can afford to live large, but the Oakland Raiders quarterback prefers to live smart.

He is going to spend their newfound money on one of the best lunches $5.95 can buy: Chick-fil-A.

When Chick-fil-A got word of what Carr said, they wanted to reward him:

He was excited, as anybody about to receive free Chick-fil-A would be.

After his splurge, which will include paying for his brother’s lunch too, Carr got more serious about what he’ll be spending money on.

”No, the first thing I’ll do is pay my tithe like I have since I was in college,” Carr said. “Giving $700 on a scholarship check. That won’t change. I’ll do that. I’ll probably give my wife something nice, even though she begged me not to.

“The exciting thing for me, money-wise, honestly, is that this money is going to help a lot of people.”

Carr’s contract will take a significant amount out of the Raiders’ salary cap, but the quarterback said Friday that he attempted to structure the deal so the team could afford to pay other stars on the team like Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper.

The deal carries a $25 million cap hit in 2018, but drops in the later years of the contract. But he’ll still be making plenty of money for chicken sandwiches and he’s not alone — the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft, Markelle Fultz, is also looking forward to spending his new contract on Chick-fil-A.
