There are just 32 teams in the NFL, so it’s really not too difficult to keep track of where each one is located. But NFL Shop, the official merchandise retailer of the National Football League, apparently had no clue that the Washington NFL team was located in Washington, D.C.
NFL Shop has no idea where the Washington NFL team is located
It’s not Washington, the state.

NFL Shop is promoting a line of state pride front license plates, which feature a team’s logo superimposed on the outline of its state. This is all fine and good for the Atlanta Falcons, whose logo is clearly sitting on top of the shape of the state of Georgia.
The state of Florida boasts three NFL teams: the Dolphins, Buccaneers, and Jaguars. The Dolphins’ and Buccaneers’ versions of the state pride plates are correct.
The poor Jaguars don’t seem to have one.
But the Washington NFL team’s state pride license plate looked like this:
That doesn’t look like the District of Columbia.
It looks like someone over at NFL Shop figured it out, because the plate is no longer available. It’s also possible that the plate sold out, and now some Washington fans have a humorous and very incorrect piece of team memorabilia.
The Washington NFL team doesn’t actually play in Washington, D.C. The team’s stadium is in nearby Landover, Md. And the team’s practice facility, well, that’s in Ashburn, Va. But neither of those places are in Washington State, either.
Don’t worry, Seahawks. You’re still the only NFL team in Washington State.
