The NBA held it’s first ever NBA Awards on Monday, June 26 in Basketball City at Pier 36 in New York. The show brought the NBA world together again after the season ended with the Golden State Warriors as NBA Champions to remember and honor the 2016-17 season. The NBA also handed out awards for MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year, Most Improved Player, and Defensive Player of the Year, and much more.

Russell Westbrook’s emotional MVP speech, Bill Russell threatening to kick the ass of five Hall of Famers on stage, and a mostly-good-but-sometimes-awkward Drake hosting the event were the things that stood out most from the first-ever NBA Awards show on Monday night in Basketball City at Pier 36 in New York.
In years past, awards were released at the end of the season, but this is the first time it’s happening in an award show setting. The NBA handed awards for MVP, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sixth Man of the Year, Most Improved Player, and Defensive Player of the Year, plus much more.

Erik Williams-USA TODAY SportsAfter a season of scorching the nets from downtown, Houston Rockets guard Eric Gordon was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year on Monday. He beat out teammate Lou Williams and Warriors swingman Andre Iguodala for the trophy.
The vote was extremely close, with Gordon receiving 46 first-place votes, 40 second-place votes, and eight third-place votes for a total of 358 points. Iguodala had 43 first-place votes, 34 second-place votes, and nine third-place votes.
