Russell is, of course, a totally deserving figure for this award. He helped pioneer basketball and is an 11-time champion. They brought him on stage and expected him to say a couple words. Instead, he roasted them — roasted five hall of famers.
It would be an amazing thing to see any of those big men go after each other in their primes, and I sure wouldn’t want to be the one betting against Russell. That was a perfect moment.
