No, it’s not a wardrobe malfunction. The Cleveland Cavaliers will don their black alternate sleeved jerseys for Game 2 of their NBA Finals matchup against the Golden State Warriors on Sunday.
Cavaliers are going back to the black jerseys they wore to win Game 7 last year
Down 1-0 to the Warriors, the Cavs are switching to the black, sleeved jerseys they wore for must-win Games 5 and 7 in last year’s NBA Finals.

The Cavaliers made a similar style switch-up for Games 5 and 7 of last year’s Finals showdown against the Warriors. Cleveland was in must-win territory when it made the change in 2016, trailing 3-1 for Game 5 and tied at three apiece before rocking the black jerseys for Game 7.
Historically, LeBron James has had it out for the sleeved look. He ripped the sleeves off before, which somehow helped his shooting night back in November of 2015.
Regardless, the Cavs needed to do something after absorbing a 22-point beatdown at the hands of the Warriors in Game 1. After all, Cleveland turned the ball over 20 times, which allowed Golden State to get out in transition, where they destroyed the Cavaliers with either fastbreak dunks or finding an open man behind the arc.
Cleveland should also be focused on improving its offense. J.R. Smith made only one shot during Game 1. Kevin Love shot 4-of-13, and both Deron Williams and Kyle Korver went scoreless. They will all need to be better if they hope to dance with one of the best teams on paper in NBA history.
But if it’s a superstitious approach Cleveland’s taking for Game 2, so be it. Everything helps, and against this Warriors team, the Cavaliers need all the help they can get.
