Seahawks sign QB Austin Davis over Colin Kaepernick

Both quarterbacks went to Seattle for a visit, and Davis is the one who will make it home next season.

The Seattle Seahawks have signed a quarterback, and it’s not Colin Kaepernick. Monday, the team announced that it signed former Rams, Browns, and Broncos quarterback Austin Davis.

Davis has just 10 career starts, going 3-7 in those games with 13 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Davis had visited the Seahawks on May 24, just as Kaepernick did.

At first, it looked like Spike Lee had broken the news that Kaepernick was going to sign with the Seahawks on Instagram. We later learned that was not the case.

It was just last Friday that Pete Carroll told reporters that Kaepernick was “a starter in this league. Looking back, Carroll tipped his hand when he doubled down on the statement, adding, “We have a starter, but he’s a starter in this league and I can’t imagine that somebody won’t give him a chance to play.”

Carroll also said the Seahawks were working to “develop it and make sure that we’re making the right decisions” for their backup quarterback situation. For Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, he felt that Kaepernick would have been a perfect fit.

Davis joins Trevone Boykin behind Russell Wilson in the Seahawks’ quarterback depth. Boykin was the passenger in a car that crashed into a bar in Dallas, where he was arrested for possession of marijuana and public intoxication charges.

As for Kaepernick, the job search continues 10 months after he started his protest.
