The Nashville Predators traded forward Colin Wilson to the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for a 2019 fourth-round pick, reports TSN’s Pierre LeBrun. The move comes right as free agency opens on Saturday.
Predators trade Colin Wilson to Avalanche for 4th-round pick, per report
Nashville clears nearly $4 million in cap space with the deal.

Wilson, 27, currently has two years remaining at a $3.97 million cap hit on his current contract, so this is effectively a salary dump. The Predators just signed forward Nick Bonino to a four-year deal with a $4.1 million cap hit, so they’re essentially swapping out Wilson in favor of Bonino.
The Avalanche benefit from that by getting a solid addition at the low cost of a draft pick. Wilson recorded 12 goals and 23 assists in 70 regular season games with Nashville in 2016-17. He’s recorded at least 30 points in five of the past seven seasons with the Predators.
Colorado only has 11 forwards under contract right now, per Cap Friendly, so Wilson should slot in easily to add depth. The Avalanche are definitely a team that needs it considering the disastrous season they just went through.
