After the Cavaliers appeared to be trading Iman Shumpert to the Houston Rockets, the deal has reportedly stalled significantly, according to The Vertical’s Shams Charania.
Iman Shumpert trade to the Rockets has been stalled, per report
Houston signed free agent forward P.J. Tucker, slashing its need to trade for a perimeter defender.

Cleveland was close to sending Shumpert to the Rockets, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, for a future draft pick and a trade exception. The potential deal was an effort by the Cavs to conserve space under the luxury tax in order to retain sharpshooter Kyle Korver, who becomes a free agent this summer.
Shumpert, who averaged 7.5 points per game last season, was expected to become Houston’s new defensive hound after trading Patrick Beverley to the Clippers. But the Rockets signed P.J. Tucker — a physical two-way wing — to a four-year, $32 million deal on Monday, slashing the need for Shump’s defensive presence in the back court.
The Cavs’ guard also has had difficulty on the offensive end. He averaged just 4.4 points per game in Cleveland’s playoff run, including only 18 combined points in five games against the Warriors.
It is unclear what the Cavaliers, who still have yet to hire a new general manager after David Griffin stepped down, will do after coming moments from trading Shumpert.
