Conor McGregor calls Showtime Sports head a ‘weasel,’ accuses him of cutting his mic

The network says it didn’t “intentionally” cut anyone off.

One of the controversies to come from Tuesday’s theatrical Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor press conference in Los Angeles involved a microphone.

McGregor and Mayweather each had turns at the podium, which they primarily used to trash-talk each other. While McGregor spoke first, Mayweather didn’t make a sound. But when Mayweather took to the mic, McGregor frequently interrupted him with taunts. Only, eventually, McGregor’s voice stopped coming across the airwaves.

McGregor said Showtime, which is producing the run-up to the fight, cut him off.

Via MMA Fighting:

“Yeah, they took the mic off,” McGregor told print reporters. “Look, f*ck them. F*ck Showtime. F*ck them all. They can do nothing after Aug. 26. They can try and do all these tricks all they want. Aug. 26, this man will be unconscious. He’s too small, he’s too frail. That’s it. What more can I say?”

Wednesday brought the second leg of the Mayweather-McGregor press tour, which is stopping in four cities in total. This one’s north of the border in Toronto.

McGregor stepped up his criticism of Showtime at the press conference.

He turned to the head of Showtime Sports, Stephen Espinoza, and called him a “fucking weasel.” McGregor is still saying Showtime cut off his microphone.

Before the presser, the TV channel sought to pour cold water on the story.

Showtime says it didn’t “intentionally” cut anyone off.

Here’s a statement from Espinoza:

These pressers are meant to be absurd, so cutting off McGregor would be odd if it came from the top of the corporate ladder. That might not be what happened, though.
