The Sacramento Kings have offered restricted free agent Otto Porter Jr. a max offer sheet, according to ESPN’s Chris Haynes and Marc J. Spears. Porter hasn’t accepted the offer sheet, but he will if the Washington Wizards fail to match it, per report.

Washington continues to say that it will match any offer for Porter this summer, though he hasn’t accepted the Kings’ offer yet.

However, the Wizards have repeatedly said that they will match any offer sheet that Porter signs this summer. The 24-year-old forward notched career highs with 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 43.4 percent shooting from three last season, clearing the way for Porter and his agent to demand a four-year max deal worth almost $100 million.
If Porter signs Sacramento’s offer sheet, because of the way restricted free agency works, the Wizards will have 72 hours to decide whether they will match the contract or allow Porter to sign with Sacramento. Porter hasn’t signed it, meaning he may give the Wizards a chance to match the offer without going through the complications of restricted free agency. Either way, all signs point to Porter returning to Washington.
Porter will reportedly be meeting with other teams in the coming days, which is partly why he hasn’t made his decision yet. However, if the Wizards were hoping to sign Porter for less than the max, then those hopes seem gone. If they offer him anything less than what the Kings did, then Porter could easily take that offer sheet instead, forcing Washington to match it or let him walk.
Meanwhile, the Wizards have reportedly offered John Wall the new “supermax” extension, but he’s waiting to see what the team does this offseason before accepting it. Perhaps signing Porter is the sign Wall needs to commit for four more seasons beyond the two he still has under contract.
