A few big names are being bandied about in advance of the trade deadline, but until they actually get the call to say they’re going to another team they are technically only rumors in the rumor mill. So once again, we’ve rounded up all of the day’s hottest (or not so hot) trade rumors in one easy place for you to consume.
MLB trade rumors roundup: Justin Verlander, Justin Wilson, and more
Trade rumors keeps on turnin’, rumor roundup keeps on burnin’.

- The Astros would really like to nab at least one of the Tigers’ available Justins, if not both. They’re not the only ones though, as the Brewers are also looking at acquiring the Verlander variety of Justin, while multiple teams are making calls about Wilson.
- The Rockies have bullpen needs and management isn’t afraid to talk about it.
- Boston is still reportedly very interested in the Giants’ Eduardo Nuñez, because they are still obviously in need of a third baseman to fix their extensive problems at the hot corner.
- Zack Cozart is probably not going to sign an extension in Cincinnati, so the Reds will look to get a return on him before the season is out. How much they could get back in this market remains to be seen, as does whether his love of donkeys will be a selling point.
- The Cubs are still in need of a backup catcher, and one of their targets remains Alex Avila. Chicago is looking for veteran help, and while he’s not the only person on their list it’s looking likely that a prospect could change hands to boost the Cubs in their playoff push.
- Of everyone the Mets are listening to offers on, Addison Reed seems to be eliciting the most interest from around the league. Where he’ll go, nobody knows ... yet.
- The Rays are showing interest in Marlins reliever A.J. Ramos. Miami shipped David Phelps out of town this week, but they clearly aren’t done getting rid of some pitching talent just yet.
- Milwaukee’s interest in pitchers isn’t stopping at Verlander as they are also making some calls about the Mets’ Addison Reed. New York has established itself as a seller already and the Brewers have established themselves as really needing to fix their pitching staff. So this could actually work!
- Seeing as Detroit just acquired a trio of middle infielders, Jose Iglesias is probably not long for that world. In this case, not long might mean as soon as before this trade deadline if Detroit can find a buyer.
- Even with all of the talk around Sonny Gray leaving Oakland and the many teams interested in his services, the Cubs haven’t been included in those conversations. Until now, as it looks like they are dipping their toes in the Sonny Gray bidding pool even though they just got a top-of-the-line starter from across town in Jose Quintana.
