Andrei Markov may be the top player remaining in NHL free agency, so there’s a lot of pressure on his agent to get the best possible deal. Who is the person representing Markov in these intense multimillion-dollar negotiations? Andrei Markov!
Andrei Markov is acting as his own agent in NHL free agency talks
This is Markov’s first time on the free agent market, and he’s going at it alone.

According to both the Courier-Post’s Dave Isaac and TSN 690’s Amanda Stein, Markov is presently acting as his own agent this offseason:
What could possibly go wrong?
Only the Flyers are reportedly talking to Markov right now. Like, with him directly, since he has no representation:
Markov, 38, is coming off a three-year, $17.25 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens. This is the first time he’s ever hit unrestricted free agency after 16 seasons with Montreal. Since 2007, he’s signed three separate contracts that all paid an identical average annual value of $5.75 million, per Cap Friendly. It’s unclear who negotiated those deals.
Now Markov reportedly wants a $6 million cap hit over two years, which is a reasonable ask given his recent performance but might be tough to get given his age and how few teams have that much budget left for one player. The Flyers, for one, would have a tough time offering a $6 million cap hit. There’s also a chance that he ultimately retires or returns to Russia, although he seems to want to stay in the NHL.
We’ll just have to see what kind of deal Andrei Markov, agent, can get for Andrei Markov, defenseman.
