The Brooklyn Nets are testing the Washington Wizards’ resolve. They have agreed to a four-year, $104 million maximum offer sheet with restricted free agent Otto Porter, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Shams Charania.

The Wizards reportedly made it clear that they would match any offers. They are expected to do so, according to Yahoo! Sports’ Chris Mannix and NBA.com’s David Aldridge, but haven’t officially yet.
Porter was also an option for the Utah Jazz after they lost Gordon Hayward, but that was always a longshot given their cap situation.
The 23-year-old Porter averaged 13.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game last year while shooting 43 percent from three-point range. He’s an advanced metrics star that succeeds in his role playing off John Wall and Bradley Beal.
SB Nation’s Wizards site, Bullets Forever, explained why Porter is a maximum-level player despite his modest per-game averages.
This past season, he matured into a versatile player who did lots of the little jobs teams need done to win, while also becoming one of the most efficient players in the league -- a lethal shooter from anywhere on the floor with a league-best turnover rate.
How good was Porter’s shooting? Picture in your mind a “great shooter.” Odds are, you thought of Stephen Curry or Kevin Durant, or maybe Kyle Korver, J.J. Redick or even Bradley Beal. This season, Porter shot better than all of them except Korver. Porter this season tied for the 19th best effective field goal percentage (eFG) among non-bigs...since 1977-78.
Under new general manager Sean Marks, the Nets have chased restricted free agents in each of the last two summers. They tried to sign Portland’s Allen Crabbe and Miami’s Tyler Johnson last season, only to see the Blazers and Heat match those offers. Brooklyn also chased restricted free agent Donatas Motiejunas before he returned to Houston in a bizarre contract scenario.
Will the Wizards make it 0-for-4? All signs point to yes, but they have until Saturday at 11:59 p.m. ET to actually follow through.
