Nick Young, Warriors reportedly agree on 1-year, $5.2 million deal

The Golden State Warriors and free agent swingman Nick Young have agreed to a one-year deal worth $5.2 million, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The deal adds more depth to the defending champions, who already re-signed the core pieces to their title-winning team this summer.

Young, known best by his nickname “Swaggy P,” averaged 13.2 points on 40-percent three-point shooting for the Los Angeles Lakers last season. He projects to fit well alongside a cast of selfless, personable Warriors players who thrive on court spacing and hitting three-pointers.

Swaggy P has had a knack in the past for his on-court antics, but that should have little influence on the Warriors’ chemistry that has won two championships in the past three seasons. The Warriors signed free agent center JaVale McGee last season and turned him into a towering defensive presence and integral bench spark plug for their championship run.

Young’s signing follows an expensive free agency for Warriors ownership. Golden State signed Shaun Livingston to a three-year, $27 million deal then inked Andre Iguodala for three years at $48 million. The Warriors then signed Stephen Curry to the first “supermax” deal worth $201 million, before re-signing Kevin Durant on a two-year, $53 million deal.

The Warriors were forced to let Ian Clark and Matt Barnes leave in free agency this summer, but they replaced the two reserves with Young and Omri Casspi. Now, Golden State has a full roster as it attempts to repeat as NBA champions next season.
