Devon Still signs with Jets

After a brief stint with the Texans, Devon Still is getting another shot in the NFL.

Devon Still, perhaps best known for his charity work in the pediatric cancer field, has signed a contract with the New York Jets, the team announced Friday. ESPN’s Adam Schefter was the first to report the signing.

Once a second-round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals, Still’s NFL career got off to a rocky start. Then his daughter, Leah, began to battle neuroblastoma, a form of pediatric cancer.

Still started the #StillStrong campaign for his daughter, who eventually went into remission. He’s since continued to do work with the Still Strong Foundation, helping families raise money to pay for treatment of the aggressive (and expensive) disease.

The Bengals were in headlines for keeping Still on the team’s practice squad to help him pay for Leah’s treatments a couple of years ago, but Still should get some credit. After all, having lost practice squad eligibility, he landed on the Houston Texans’ 53-man roster last year before sustaining a foot injury in October. His season ended on injured reserve.

Over a five-year NFL career, the 27-year-old defensive lineman has recorded only 43 tackles and 0.5 sacks.
