If you thought Lonzo Ball was going to listen to some old school hip-hop, you thought wrong.
Lonzo Ball: ‘Don’t nobody listen to Nas no more’
Lonzo was born in 1997, so we can’t fault him too much for his trash rap takes.
In the first episode of Big Baller Brand’s new show, Ball in the Family, the Lakers rookie point guard shut down the idea of listening to “real hip-hop” in favor of two Atlanta sensations, Migos and Future.
He even insinuated that legendary emcee, Nas, is “outdated.”
“That’s not gonna happen,” Ball said. “Y’all outdated, man. Don’t nobody listen to Nas no more. Real hip-hop is Migos, Future.”
Ball’s age probably has something to do with his opinion on one of the best lyricists to grace a microphone. After all, when Nas dropped Illmatic — widely considered one of the best rap albums of all-time — Lonzo wasn’t born yet.
But the “N.Y. State of Mind” rapper has also been on some dope tracks in recent years, including one of the best tracks on D.J. Khaled’s Grammy-nominated 2016 album, Major Key and a feature on Dave East’s latest EP, Paranoia. Nas is expected to drop a new album this summer.
This type of music take is nothing new for Lonzo, who doubles as a rapper in his spare time.
Ball got slammed on Twitter after writing that 21 Savage’s album, Issa Album — a great body of work by all means — was better than Jay-Z’s widely lauded new album, 4:44. He also left Hov, Nas, and Biggie off his top-five rappers of all-time, in favor of Lil Wayne, Future, DMX, 50 Cent, and Tupac.
Everyone’s entitled to an opinion, but leaving three of the best to do it off his list is borderline negligent. If Lonzo balls out on the basketball court, though, people will quickly forget his rap takes.
