Eagles CB Ronald Darby out 4-6 weeks with a dislocated ankle

The Eagles acquired Ronald Darby a month ago, but his first game with the team ended with an injury.

Ronald Darby’s first regular season game with the Philadelphia Eagles ended early with an ankle injury that caused him to get carted off and immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Darby avoided serious ligament damage, but will miss 4-6 weeks, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Eagles acquired Darby from Buffalo in August in exchange for wide receiver Jordan Matthews and a third-round pick in 2018.

Darby, 23, appeared to suffer the injury without contact and the Eagles trainers brought out an air cast and carted the cornerback off the field.

What does this mean for the Eagles’ defense? Prior to the injury for Darby, the Eagles were dominating the Washington offense. Kirk Cousins completed just three of his first nine passes for 55 yards, allowing Philadelphia to jump out to a 13-0 lead.

Darby was brought in because the team has little depth at cornerback, and that could immediately be a problem while he’s out.

The Eagles signed Patrick Robinson to a one-year deal in March and will need the veteran to step up in Darby’s absence. The injury also likely means more playing time for Rasul Douglas, a tall and physical but raw rookie who was taken in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft.
