Josh Childress is the first player from Ice Cube’s Big 3 basketball league to sign on an NBA roster. Childress inked a deal with the Denver Nuggets after he spent his summer with the Ball Hogs squad in the Big 3, according to the Basketball Insiders’ Mike A. Scotto.
Josh Childress makes an NBA return fresh off of Big 3 stint
Childress is back!

Why it matters: Childress hasn’t touched an NBA floor since the 2013-14 NBA season. He spent time playing overseas in Australia, playing in the D-League, and playing in Japan but couldn’t quite crack the league again after being cut. Now he’s back with the Nuggets after a Big 3 stint at 34 years old.
Instant replay: Here’s Childress gearing up to play with the Ball Hogs in the Big 3 before the season started. He averaged 7.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per game in 16.7 minutes per game. (H/T Big 3 Basketball)
Go deeper: Childress is more than likely just a training camp body for the Nuggets here, but that doesn’t matter. What does matter is that he’s the first player from the Big 3 to make a return to the NBA — that’s huge.
No, we’re not going to see NBA players playing in the league during the offseason. But it will go a long way in convincing players who are out of the league and trying to claw their way back in that the Big 3 can be a fruitful option.
Before the league started, people questioned how seriously it would be taken. Now we see that NBA scouts, at the very least, take it quite seriously. And that’s a great thing for the Big 3’s future and the players playing in it.
