The Clemson Tigers’ offense hasn’t missed a beat with a new quarterback under center to open the 2017 season. Kelly Bryant has shown it all — deep passes, long runs, good manners — in his debut against Kent State on Saturday for the defending national champions.
New Clemson QB Kelly Bryant is putting hats back on refs and lighting up Kent State
Bryant is off to a strong start in his first game replacing Deshaun Watson.

First, here’s Bryant politely helping a referee put his hat back on after it got knocked off:
Okay, so it fell off again, but he tried. The football has been going a bit better for him, anyway.
Not that anybody is surprised by the defending champions beating up on a Kent State team with low expectations, but there was some curiosity as to how Bryant would look in his first game replacing Deshaun Watson. The junior hasn’t left much doubt by leading the Tigers to three touchdowns in the first half, including this gorgeous bomb to Deon Cain for a 61-yard score:
Bryant has been great so far by completing 7 of 11 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown. He’s also added 72 rushing yards on five carries, highlighted by a 47-yard scamper down the sideline. The quarterback already threw his first red zone interception, but it was on a tipped pass.
Watson is there, and he definitely enjoyed the deep ball:
Even if a few drives against lowly Kent State won’t decide much, one of the biggest question marks for Clemson entering the season was how Bryant would look replacing Watson. The early returns seem very positive as the Tigers get ready for another big year in the ACC.
