The Washington Wizards announced forward Markieff Morris will be out six-to-eight weeks after undergoing sports hernia surgery on Friday. Following that injury timeline, he will miss the entirety of training camp and preseason, as well as between two-and-a-half and five weeks of the regular season.

The Wizards could be without their starting forward until midway through November

Washington acquired Morris at the 2016 trade deadline, and he’s been a complementary piece alongside the Wizards’ core of John Wall, Bradley Beal, Otto Porter and Marcin Gortat. He averaged 14 points, 6.5 rebounds, and a steal for Washington last season.
The Wizards do not have a proven, veteran forward to insert into the starting lineup and have to play the position by committee until Morris’s return. That means Mike Scott, Jason Smith, Chris McCullough and even Kelly Oubre could see extended time in the frontcourt through November.
