If Donald Trump aimed to curtail NFL players from protesting when he said owners should fire any “son of a bitch” who “disrespects the flag,” that appears to have backfired.
NFL players respond with heat to Donald Trump’s comments about protests
Donald Trump said NFL owners should react to player protests by getting “that son of a bitch off the field.”

In the 24 hours since Trump’s comments at a rally in Huntsville, Ala., the NFL and NFLPA have released statements in response.
But the most fiery reactions have come from current and former NFL players on social media:
Even Colin Kaepernick’s mom, Teresa Kaepernick, shared her thoughts on Twitter:
On Saturday morning, Trump tweeted that Stephen Curry was uninvited from visiting the White House. That tweet didn’t go over well with NBA stars, including LeBron James:
Kaepernick started a movement in August 2016 when he sat during the national anthem to protest police brutality and the oppression of people of color. In the 13 months since, other players have joined in sitting or kneeling during the anthem.
Trump’s comments Friday night appear unlikely to dissuade NFL players from continuing to protest in the future.
