Rams OT Andrew Whitworth now owns the NFL record for playoff trips without a win

Seven trips to the playoffs and Andrew Whitworth still doesn’t have a win.

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth became the sole owner of a record he definitely doesn’t want or deserve when the Atlanta Falcons dealt the Rams a 26-13 loss Saturday.

It was the seventh time Whitworth has been to the postseason only to go home after the first game. Entering Saturday he was tied with five other players — Clark Harris, Jason Hanson, Brandon Tate, Pat Swilling, and Domata Peko — with an 0-6 record, but now he’s the only one to ever be 0-7.

A few of those players have one thing in common: The Cincinnati Bengals.

Whitworth, 36, spent the first 11 seasons of his NFL career with the team and that meant six trips to the playoffs without a win. That’s the same way Harris and Peko got their six losses, and the way Tate got five of his six.

The offensive tackle got another crack at it when he joined the Rams in the offseason on a three-year, $33.75 million deal and Los Angeles went 11-5 to win the NFC West. But still no luck.

Maybe Whitworth will have a chance again next year and he can finally break that spell. It would be well deserved and long overdue at this point.
