Nathan Peterman went from hero back to Nathan Peterman against the Texans

Will things ever go right for Nathan Peterman?

Nathan Peterman almost had a good game in the NFL. But like every other time he’s been on the field since joining the Buffalo Bills, it ended in flames.

With Josh Allen sidelined due to an elbow injury suffered in the second half, the Buffalo Bills turned to Peterman and he led the team to a lead with a 16-yard touchdown pass to Zay Jones.

When the Houston Texans’ red zone offense sputtered and settled for a short field goal, Peterman was given a chance with 1:34 remaining to lead the Bills down the field and break a 13-13 tie. He was ready to shine.

And then it all fell apart.

On the second play of what could’ve been a game-winning drive, Peterman threw a pass to the sideline that came out way too late. It never had a chance at getting to Kelvin Benjamin and instead became an easy pick-six for Texans cornerback Jonathan Joseph.

Down 20-13, Peterman’s chance to win it for the Bills became a chance to tie and that didn’t work out either. After a few decent plays, Peterman rolled to his right and threw across his body to the middle of the field — a recipe for disaster that ended with another interception.

Peterman finished the day with six completions on 12 attempts for 61 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

In his first career start in 2017, Peterman threw five interceptions in a half against the Chargers before he was benched. He was named the Bills’ starter for 2018, but the season started with two interceptions and a 0.0 passer rating in Week 1 against the Ravens before he was benched.

His career passer rating actually rose from 25.7 to 29.9 with his performance against the Texans, but it was another bad chapter in a career for Peterman that’s been about as bad as you could possibly imagine any quarterback having.

If Allen’s elbow injury is serious enough to keep him out of a Week 7 game against the Colts, the Bills may need to consider turning the starting role over to Derek Anderson just a couple weeks after adding him to the roster.
