Jaguars cornerback Jalen Ramsey doesn’t back down from anyone. Before the season, Ramsey caused a ruckus by giving colorful commentary on most of the quarterbacks in the NFL and now he’s in a war of words with Chiefs receiver Tyreek Hill in the lead up to their Week 5 showdown in Jacksonville.
Jalen Ramsey’s new beef with Tyreek Hill has us SO ready for Chiefs vs. Jaguars
Ramsey doesn’t see his matchup against Hill as cornerback vs. receiver. Ouch.
During media availability, Hill said that Ramsey was “all right” and that he hopes Ramsey presses him during the game.
“Obviously, he thinks highly of himself,” Hill told the local Kansas City media on Wednesday. “He’s all right, I guess. I can’t wait to line up against him. I hope he presses me.”
Hill also sees Ramsey as a challenge and went on to say Ramsey was the “top dog” in the NFL at cornerback.
“Not calling (Broncos cornerback) Chris Harris (Jr.) or anyone else bad, but [Ramsey] is the top dog right now, so I can’t wait.”
Ramsey didn’t like the wishy-washy, noncommittal nature of Hill’s words when it came to Ramsey’s status as an elite cornerback in the game — especially considering how Ramsey views Hill as a player.
Ramsey went further by saying he’s definitely going to press Hill on Sunday. Ramsey’s not afraid of getting beat deep by Kansas City’s speed demon and he’s putting his money where is mouth his.
This isn’t the first time Ramsey has talked about Hill and the Chiefs. Before the season started, Ramsey appeared on a segment on NFL Network where he ranked the best receiving duos in the league, with Tyreek Hill and Sammy Watkins coming in at No. 5:
However, this is the first time Ramsey has spoken about budding superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Ramsey actually gave Mahomes — the current NFL MVP frontrunner — some praise by comparing him to Russell Wilson with his ability to escape from the pocket and make plays.
Hill has been a direct beneficiary of Mahomes’ big arm, catching 23 of his 32 targets for 364 yards and three touchdowns. His 364 receiving yards currently rank 11th in the NFL. According to Football Outsiders, the Jaguars own the league’s sixth-best pass defense and Jacksonville is allowing just 5.8 yards per attempt, good for third in the NFL. The Chiefs have the top scoring offense in the NFL and Mahomes leads the league in touchdown passes — and has yet to throw an interception.
The game between the 4-0 Chiefs and the 3-1 Jaguars was already must-see TV due to Mahomes taking on the toughest defense he’s seen so far. Now, we have the Jalen Ramsey-Tyreek Hill feud to pay attention to as well. Buckle up, this could be a rowdy one.
