Cam Newton left the Panthers’ game against the Lions on Sunday after a defender landed on his legs. The Panthers were up 13-7 when the injury occurred. He was ruled probable to return, and would eventually come back for the Panthers after missing just a short amount of time.

Newton stayed on the ground for a couple of minutes before limping off, and Taylor Heinicke came in for the Panthers as his replacement. Prior to his injury, Newton had completed 12 of his 19 passes for 194 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
The Panthers picked up Heinicke off waivers in April. He went undrafted in 2015 out of Old Dominion, and spent his first two NFL seasons with the Vikings. He’s made two appearances in 2018, in Week 8 against the Ravens, and briefly in Week 10 against the Steelers in a 52-21 loss.
Coming into Sunday’s game, Newton had completed 68.5 percent of his passes for 2,086 yards, 17 touchdowns, and five interceptions for the Panthers.
