Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert got hit with two questionable foul calls in the opening three minutes of his team’s game against the Houston Rockets on Thursday night. His frustration boiled quickly, resulting in the 7’ big using all 7’9 of his wingspan to slap a cup at the scorer’s table.
Rudy Gobert got ejected 3 minutes into an NBA game for WHAT NOW?
As if slapping a cup and getting the quickest toss in 15 years wasn’t enough, Gobert also posted a mid-game workout to Instagram — ha, ha, ha. Amazing.

That earned him an ejection; the only one in the first three minutes of a game in the last 15 years, according to ESPN.
Look at TNT reporter Ros Gold-Unwude’s reaction:
That wasn’t the last we’d hear from Gobert, though. Mere minutes after he was tossed, he posted a picture and a video to Instagram of himself working out, following along to his team’s 118-91 win on TV.
Because obviously. What else are you supposed to do in the wake of a slap-cup meltdown?
Gobert was big mad because of the nature of the quick fouls, and maybe recent history
Let’s take a look at what fouls Gobert was called for:
The first foul came on the literal opening tip-off of the game, as Gobert collided with Clint Capela. The second came from a likely James Harden flop. That’s a maddening start to a nationally televised game against a conference opponent.
Gobert has recent beef with officiating, too.
He was fined by the league on Tuesday after he was called for a late-game foul against the Heat.
“I just want it to be consistent, at one point,” Gobert told reporters on Sunday, according to ESPN. “Every night is the same s---. Every night has been the same s---. If you call something one way, you have to call it the other way. Once they start doing that, I’m going to have a little more respect. I’m just tired of it. Every game is the same.”
Gobert deflected postgame questions against the Rockets when he was asked if he thought he was targeted for those comments.
“I don’t know, to be honest, Gobert said. “I came in to try to play basketball and I had a a stupid reaction. I think I can blame myself more than anything.”
