Chloe Kim is worthy of all the hype: She’s taken gold for the United States in the women’s halfpipe final in Pyeongchang.

NBC had been pushing American snowboarder Chloe Kim as the new face of the Winter Olympics in 2018. It turns out the network was smart to do so.

The 17-year-old from Long Beach, Calif., backed up the hype by earning her first gold medal in the women’s snowboard halfpipe event. She put down a massive score of 93.75 on her first of three runs, easily taking first place. Her third run, after she clinched gold, was a huge 98.25.

She tried for the back-to-back 1080 in her second run, but wasn’t quite able to land it, though she didn’t need it. She is the first woman to ever do back-to-back 1080s in competition. On her third run, with the gold medal clinched, Kim did back-to-back 1080 spins, and landed them this time.

Kim’s victory continues a streak of Team USA dominance in the event; her gold medal was America’s fourth in the six Olympiads that have included the halfpipe event. American Arielle Gold took bronze, while Liu Jiayu of China took silver, with a score of 89.75.

It’s a coronation for Kim, who already has four Winter X Games golds in the event. The prodigy joins fellow snowboarder Red Gerard, who won the men’s slopestyle event Saturday, as the U.S.’s only gold medalists to have born in 2000 or later.

Veteran American Kelly Clark was in bronze position until the third runs, when Gold unseated her. Gold took silver medals behind Kim in the Winter X Games in 2016 and 2018.

You can find the live results from all three runs in the women’s final and other medal events from Monday right here.
