Like in Winter Olympics past, Team USA continues to dominate the snowboard events in Pyeongchang. All three of the U.S. gold medals won so far in the 2018 Olympic Games were awarded to snowboarders (men’s and women’s slopestyle, women’s halfpipe) and the men’s halfpipe competitors are looking to make it four gold medals Tuesday night.

On Monday, Chloe Kim absolutely dominated the women’s halfpipe event, winning gold before she even clipped in for her third and final run. Ultimately a victory lap, Kim was going for a perfect score and won a gold medal with a high score of 98.25. Just as Kim was setting the stage for the future of women’s snowboarding, the men started gearing up for their qualifying runs.

Leading the pack — which should be of little to surprise to anyone who has watched any of the Winter Olympics over the past decade-plus — is Shaun White, who finished the qualifying rounds with the No. 1 score. White’s first run earned a 93.25 score, and he followed it up with an incredible 98.50 on his second run to solidify his place at the top.

“I was stoked to put that (first) run down,” White said, according to NBC. “That took the pressure and the edge off, and then I started seeing everyone putting these great runs in and I figured I would step it up. They motivated me to send it on that last one.”

Normally a bit more reserved during the qualifying rounds, White, along with No. 2 Scotty James (Australia) and No. 3 Ayumu Hirano (Japan), continued to one-up each other throughout the second heat. As the final rider of the day, White eclipsed both James and Hirano to keep the top spot heading into the finals.

While White is a heavy favorite as a two-time gold medalist, he’s not the only American with a chance to medal in men’s halfpipe. Teammate Ben Ferguson finished the qualifying rounds with scores of 91.00 and 89.75, good for No. 4 in the field. Team USA is rounded out by No. 7 Chase Josey (47.75, 83.75) and No. 8 Jake Pates (59.50, 82.25).

The American snowboarders have been dominating the sport — in all aspects — for years, but with three gold medals already going to the United States, White and crew will look to continue the dominance with a gold in the men’s halfpipe on Tuesday.
