Team USA faces Canada in their first matchup of the 2018 Winter Olympics at 10:10 p.m. ET on Wednesday night. The final preliminary stage game for each team doesn’t have major implications given they’ve already clinched the top two spots in Group A, but it’ll still be an important test leading up to their likely rematch in the gold medal game.

The game will be broadcast live on NBCSN in addition to live streaming on NBC Olympics.
Both the U.S. and Canada enter the game with perfect 2-0-0 records in Pyeongchang. Canada holds the slight advantage with a plus-8 goal differential over the Americans’ plus-7, but the result of Wednesday’s game will determine which team ultimately wins the group.
Winning the group won’t matter much, however, given the way that the women’s tournament in structured. All four teams from Group A automatically advance to the playoff stage, and the top two teams receive byes to the semifinals. Given the results already in hand from the first few days, the U.S. and Canada already locked up those byes.
Team USA is coming off a dominant 5-0 win over Olympic Athletes from Russia in which Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson set an Olympic hockey record with two goals in just six seconds. Goaltender Maddie Rooney has allowed just one goal on 37 shots in her first two contests.
But the real challenge for the Americans comes from Canada, who has won the last four Olympic gold medals. Those two teams have dominated the women’s hockey scene for the past two decades and created one of the fiercest rivalries in international sports.
The game on Wednesday night won’t have the massive stakes of a gold medal game, but it’ll still be an intense game between two extremely talented teams that openly dislike each other on the ice. It’ll be one of the most fun hockey games of the 2018 Olympics, so you’ll want to tune in.
