Larry Fitzgerald will add at least one more season to his Hall of Fame career

The future Hall of Famer isn’t ready to call it a career just yet.

Larry Fitzgerald, probably the best player who’s ever worn an Arizona Cardinals jersey, isn’t ready to retire just yet. The Cardinals officially announced on Thursday that he will return for the 2018 season, which will be his 15th year in the game. Fitzgerald is sticking around even after Bruce Arians and Carson Palmer retired, which will be a boost for the offense under new head coach Steve Wilks.

After the season ended, Fitzgerald took a few weeks to make his decision on playing again, telling NFL Network on Super Bowl Sunday that he’s “excited about what the future holds in Arizona.” Now it’s all confirmed that the future Hall of Famer is returning.

Seemingly ageless at 34 years old, Fitzgerald had yet another productive season in 2017. He finished with 109 catches for 1,156 yards and six touchdowns, the third straight year he cleared the 100-reception mark. He accomplished this even after Palmer was lost for the year, with Drew Stanton and Blaine Gabbert trading starts for the stretch run of a disappointing Cardinals season.

While Fitzgerald is back for 2018, the rest of the Cardinals’ offense is less certain. They need a quarterback with Palmer retired, and Stanton and Gabbert both free agents. The wide receiver group is also thin with John Brown and Jaron Brown entering free agency. But even with these question marks, Wilks can at least count on Fitzgerald for a much-needed veteran presence. He promises to be a sure pair of hands for whoever is under center in the 2018 season.
