After opening the 2018 Winter Olympics with a meltdown of a 3-2 loss to Slovenia, the United States has an uphill battle to climb against Slovakia. The two men’s hockey teams from Group B will face off on Thursday evening at 10:10 p.m. ET on CNBC in addition to being broadcast live on NBC’s Olympics website.

Team USA is back in action Thursday evening looking to right the ship.

The United States has just one point in the standings after losing to Slovenia earlier in the week, but they have the chance to make up for it by besting the leader of Group B. Brian O’Neill had two points in the 3-2 loss on Wednesday, but other veterans of Team USA like Brian Gionta and Mark Arcobello will need to step up to get the necessary three points for a regulation win.
Team USA’s opponents, Slovakia, are coming off a thrilling victory over the favorited Russian team to open their tournament. Slovakia went down 2-0 early to Russia, but were able to even the gap by the end of the first period. The team would score just once more before holding off a furious Russian attack to close out the victory.
A loss would put the United States essentially out of contention of grabbing a bye to the quarterfinal, making their road to the medal podium that much harder. Given how strong the Americans started in their first game, but failed to finish, we could see a motivated team out there as they look to make some headway in the standings.
