Team USA faced Finland in its first preliminary match to kick off the Olympic tournament. Despite going down by a goal in the first period, the U.S. rallied to score three straight to cap off a 3-1 victory. Forward Kendall Coyne was quite impressive in Team USA’s victory over Finland, as her speed helped catapult the team with one goal and five shots.
In their last time out, the U.S. dropped a tough 2-1 loss to rival Canada to cap off the preliminary rounds. The team has had some issues to fix but will likely be ready to go to face Finland on Sunday.
Finland comes into Sunday evening’s game after having bested Sweden 7-2 in the quarterfinal match. The country lost both preliminary games to the United States and Canada, but came away with a 5-1 victory over the Olympic Athletes from Russia in its final preliminary game.
While the U.S. is expected to make it back to the gold medal match, the team should not look too far ahead with a tough Finland team waiting in the wings.
