Long track speed skating doesn’t get quite as much love as its chaotic counterpart on the short track, but there is still plenty of compelling action in the men’s 500m on Monday. Americans can catch the action live at 6:53 a.m. ET on the NBC Olympics app and FuboTV, with TV replays on NBCSN and NBC throughout the day.

The Netherlands are looking to continue its long track dominance with the men’s 500m on Monday.

More from the Winter Olympics
Unlike the short track, with all competitors on the ice at the same time, long track takes a more leisurely pace. There are only two skaters per heat, and they’re not racing each other so much as simply trying to get the best time. So it’s more of a time trial than a straight-up race, though there’s still some excitement to be found.
The Netherlands has been absolutely dominant in this year’s speed skating events, taking home six gold medals, three silvers, and two bronzes. They’ll be the top contenders once again in the 500m, with Jan Smeekens seeking to improve on his 2014 silver medal effort. The Dutch completely swept the podium at men’s 500m in Sochi.
For American viewers, this is another chance to watch Shani Davis in his last Olympic Games. The 35-year-old finished 19th in the 1500m event and isn’t expected to challenge for a medal here, having placed only 24th in Sochi at the 500m. Other Team USA members include Jonathan Garcia, Kimani Griffin, and Mitchell Whitmore.
