Finland looks to return to the Olympic podium in women’s hockey for the first time since 2010 with the bronze medal game against Olympic Athletes from Russia on Wednesday morning. The two teams will meet at 2:40 a.m. ET in Pyeongchang to determine who will join the U.S. and Canada in taking home medals.

Noora Raty and Finland look to bring home bronze after falling short in Sochi.

The Finnish team is yet again led by star goaltender Noora Raty, who remains one of the top players in the world. She was unable to stop Team USA in a 5-0 beatdown in the semifinals, but the Americans also held a 38-14 shot advantage in that game so it’s hard to pin defeat on the netminder.
The matchup against Olympic Athletes from Russia should be much easier to handle. These teams already met once in the group stage, where Finland rolled to a 5-1 victory behind a pair of goals from Michelle Karvinen.
At the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, Finland was knocked out in the quarterfinals by Sweden, which went on to lose to Switzerland in the bronze medal game.
With the dominance of the U.S. and Canada in women’s hockey, Finland has never won a gold or silver medal at the Olympics or World Championships. However, it has won Olympic bronze twice and Worlds bronze a dozen times. Even if making the leap into the top two remains elusive, another bronze would show who’s next up in the hierarchy.
