In 2014, the highest U.S. finisher claimed 13th place. Let’s hope this year goes a little better.

Unlike the women from Team USA’s alpine skiing team, there is no overlap between the men’s slalom and giant slalom event, with three U.S. skiers planning to hit the slopes for the first time on Wednesday night during the men’s slalom runs 1 and 2 beginning at 8:15 p.m. ET on NBC (live stream).

Two of the three American slalom competitors are Olympic veterans, David Chodounsky is competing in his second Winter Games and Nolan Kasper will look to best his former rankings in Pyeongchang for his third try at an Olympic medal. Chodounsky competed in Sochi in 2014, but ended the Games with a DNF run designation. Kasper finished at No. 24 in his Olympic debut in 2010 and then at No. 13 in 2014 (top place among U.S. competitors).

American skier Mark Engel is the only first-time Olympian among the group, but his Olympic moment almost didn’t happen. Engel announced in a pair of Instagram posts in late-January that he had battled anxiety and depression, and almost gave up his skiing career as a result. He lauded his support system and reaching out for help as the reasons he was able to make it back to the slopes and is now competing in the Olympics. He’s always been a middle-of-the-pack skier, with his three best finishes of the 2017-2018 season, include placing 24th, 26th and 26th.

Team USA will have some steep competition, with Marcel Hischer (Austria) and Henrik Kristoffersen (Norway) in the lineup. Hirscher has already won two gold medals at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, and will be looking to follow-up his silver medal from the 2014 games in the slalom event.

You can find live streaming of all events at NBC’s Olympics site.
