Figure skating takes center stage on Thursday night.

American Bradie Tennell, who had an uncharacteristic fall during her short program, still is in a good position, with 64.01 points, which puts her ahead of Slovakia’s Nicole Rajicova, and Germany’s Nicole Schott, who has 59.20. Tennell burst onto the scene when she won the U.S. championship in January, and since then, she’s starting to become a household name for U.S. figure skating.
“She’s human,” commentator Tara Lipinski said during the broadcast, prompted by announcer Terry Gannon via the Chicago Tribune. “I mean, after being thrown into this scene just 3½ months ago. She came to nationals, I thought, ‘Will she crack under the pressure?’ No. ‘Will she crack under pressure in the team event?’ No. But obviously tonight, the nerves hit her a little bit.
The other two Americans who will compete on Thursday evening are Mirai Nagasu and Karen Chen (65.90).
Other events on Thursday night include the biathlon relay, and men’s and women’s curling matches.
