The men’s 1000m long track final in speed skating gets underway on Friday night from PyeongChang, South Korea. With a number of strong skaters in the race, the final should be an exciting one.

Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands is the favorite.

One of the strongest contenders in the field, Kjeld Nuis of the Netherlands was the 2017 world champion in the event, and during the Dutch Trials, he came away with the top 100m time. Missing the last two Olympics, Nuis has had one of his best years one the ice this past one, wining world titles in both the 1000m and the 1500m. The 28 year old one to watch on Friday night.
Another strong contender is Canada’s Vincent de Haitre, who was second behind Nuis in this event at world’s. Last season he did, however, have a personal best time in the event with a 1:06.72 run. Norway’s Havard Lorentzen, who won gold in the 500m.
As for the American hope for gold, the best bet would be Joey Mantia, who won the event during the Olympic trials. American Shani Davis, a two-time Olympic gold medalist will also be skating on Friday night alongside Mantia.
Regardless of who comes away with medals, the skate shouldn’t lack excitement whatsoever!
