What’s the significance behind the Eagles walking out to Meek Mill’s ‘Dreams and Nightmares’?

The Philadelphia native’s song has been the Eagles’ anthem this postseason.

The Philadelphia Eagles will be taking the field to Philadelphia native Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” before the game on Super Bowl Sunday.

The song was the introduction to his first studio album back in 2012 and was an immediate hit. It starts with a calm tune and Meek talking about his ascension to the top — and then turns into a wonderful rage-filled sermon. Whether you’re a fan of Meek, you have to admit that it’s one of the best openings to a rap album of all time.

The team has used the song prior to the Super Bowl:

The rapper is currently serving two to four years at the Chester State Correctional Institution for violating his probation.

“It really lifted my spirit to hear the team rally around my songs because that’s why I make music—to inspire others and bring people together,” Meek said in a statement to Bleacher Report from prison. “The Eagles have also motivated me with the way they’ve overcome tough situations and injuries to succeed this year.”

Meek’s prison sentence has been part of a national discussion. He was arrested for popping wheelies on his dirt bike and for getting into a fight earlier this year. Those arrests violated his probation from a 2008 gun and drug case.

Despite his current situation, it’s been cool to see the Eagles rally around a song that is from a local famous rapper.
