Carolina Panthers interim general manager Marty Hurney was placed on paid leave by the team following accusations of harassment by his ex-wife, Jeanne Hurney. On Friday, the NFL concluded its investigation into the allegations and Hurney was reinstated.
Panthers interim GM Marty Hurney reinstated following NFL investigation into harassment accusations
Hurney interviewed for the team’s full-time GM position last week.

Hurney and his ex-wife divorced in 2014, and Jeanne Hurney filed for a protective order against her ex-husband on Friday, leading to a complaint hearing being set for Feb. 16. According to the complaint (via the Charlotte Observer), Marty Hurney was “extremely controlling and was verbally and emotionally abusive” during their marriage. She also expressed fear that he “may resort to violence” and “my privacy has been violated for the past seven years.”
According to the Observer, Jeanne Hurney withdrew the complaint, which effectively ended the scheduled hearing. However, the league’s investigation will go on as planned. Marty Hurney’s attorney, Kathi Lucchesi, called the allegations “complete fiction.”
Marty Hurney has been serving as the Panthers’ interim GM ever since the team fired Dave Gettleman last summer. He interviewed for the full-time job shortly after the team was eliminated from the playoffs but had yet to officially earn promotion. 49ers senior personnel executive Martin Mayhew, Bills assistant director of college scouting Lake Dawson, and Texans assistant general manager Jimmy Raye III are also candidates for the Panthers’ GM position.
