The 1924 Winter Olympics in Chamonix, France were not officially the Olympics — not until several years after the fact. At the time, IOC president Pierre de Coubertin needed to assuage Scandinavian countries that the new winter games wouldn’t diminish the profile of the Nordic Games. SPOILER: They absolutely did; the last Nordic Games were held in 1926.
