Some NFL team has a private investigator following Baker Mayfield around Oklahoma

Buncha weirdos.

Sports Illustrated’s Robert Klemko wrote an article posted Thursday morning about Baker Mayfield’s pro day at Oklahoma. It was centered around what was going on behind the scenes — and there were certainly some things going on.

In the article, Klemko writes that an unnamed team was tracking his movements beyond the pro day itself:

Later on Tuesday, Mayfield received an alert from a trusted source that he had a tail in Norman. A private investigator, he was told, was tracking his movements on behalf of a team. The MMQB was unable to verify the identity of that team, but it should come as no surprise that any NFL franchise considering a (minimum) four-year commitment and tens of millions of dollars to a 22-year-old might like to know how he spends nights near his old stomping grounds.

I have no idea how common this is in the NFL. I get it, a team might be selecting him high in the draft and have to pay him millions upon millions of dollars. They want to make sure they get it right.

But imagine a team just following him around and judging him on moves he makes at his old stomping grounds. That seems a bit much, right? I’m pretty sure we’d all prefer to not be judged on how we act within the confines of our homes or areas of comfort.

The things he’s being judged on are probably outrageous, too.

DINNER TIME: Baker goes to Taco Bell as opposed to going grocery shopping and making his own tacos.

NFL TEAM: Wow. This kid is taking the easy way out. Not showing any leadership by gathering the ingredients himself and throwing together more wholesome tacos.

BED TIME: Baker slides into bed with socks on.

NFL TEAM: Now this is a kid who can stand the heat! Sleeping with socks on? You’re asking to just overheat during the night. He’s got some moxie.

WAKING UP: Baker gets up at 6:01 as opposed to 6:00 on the dot.

NFL TEAM: Really? He can’t find an even number to wake up to? The temerity.

It’s gotta be the Browns or the Jets though, right?
