They called him “Fatts” Russell because he was a fat-ass baby. CBS even showed in on screen. But the reality is Darron “Fatts” Russell got nicknamed Fatts because of his onions. Especially in his first NCAA men’s tournament game when he dropped 15 points on a few big triples, had two steals from lockdown defense in overtime, plus a fancy pass or two.
Meet ‘Fatts’ Russell, March Madness’ first cult hero

Russell is only a freshman, but could be the next star for Danny Hurley’s Rhode Island team. And why not? Philly is known to slay giants. Might as well keep a 5’10 giant killer on your crew.
Before coming to Rhody, he became his high school’s (Imhotep) all-time leading scorer, won a Philly Public League championship, won a city title, and then won a 4A state championship on his way to being an honorable mention MaxPreps All-American.
He also did this to Trae Young:
If you ain’t know about Fatts, you do now. Philly has known for years. But now the secret is out. Russell is Rhody’s next star. Don’t say you weren’t warned.
Ask Young how it went down. That fake-ass Buddy Hield will let you know about him.
Philly forever.
