Russell Wilson will mentor top NFL Draft prospects on ESPN. But some things he just can’t teach

This should be fun!

ESPN announced on Wednesday that Russell Wilson would be doing a QB2QB SportsCenter Special, where he mentors top NFL prospects before the 2018 draft. He’s basically taking over the Gruden’s QB Camp.

The four prospects that Wilson will spend time with are quarterbacks — Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield, Ohio State’s J.T. Barrett, and Oklahoma State’s Mason Rudolph. NFL Combine Hall of Famer Saquon Barkley (he went to Penn State) will also get face time with Wilson.

According to the company’s press release, QB2QB will premiere with all four 30-minute episodes airing Tuesday, April 17 on ESPN. They also want you to know that Barkley’s will have a special name, “QB2RB.”

Here’s what you should expect:

Wilson will host one-on-one conversations with each player later this month where he will discuss his own NFL experiences from the past six seasons, including making the transition from college to the NFL, winning and losing Super Bowls, being the face of an NFL franchise, starting over with new coaches, and building relationships with teammates.

QB2QB will also explore mental conditioning with Wilson and his cognitive coach Trevor Moawad. The Founder and President of Moawad Consulting Group, Moawad works with Wilson and other elite and professional athletes in self-awareness and mental skills training.

It should be neat. But as far as being able to pass on certain things, well...

There are going to be some things he just can’t teach.

Like going from dead man walking to first down thrower

Who does this?

Or how to make AND1 mixtape pump fakes on a football field

Wilson would be one of the best teachers in the world if he could show ANYBODY how to replicate a pump fake this hard. It looks like he threw a spear at Falcons linebacker De’Vondre Campbell and nailed him:

lmaooooooooo

Turning a broke-ass play into a dope-ass play

OK no wait, hold on. THIS play. This is the play that would make Wilson one hell of a teacher. Baker Mayfield and J.T. Barrett are elusive, but if you put them in a similar situation, I’m not sure they’re coming out of this one alive:

On a serious note though, ESPN couldn’t have picked a better quarterback to sit down with these guys. Wilson wasn’t considered the best prospect coming out of Wisconsin. He was drafted in the third round of the 2012 draft, with Andrew Luck, RGIII, Ryan Tannehill, Brandon Weeden, and Brock Osweiler picked ahead of him.

But time and again he’s shown he’s one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks, and has the stats and Super Bowl to back it up (he should have two but that’s another conversation). It should be a good viewing experience as Wilson chops it up with Mayfield, Barrett, Rudolph, and Barkley.
