Aaron Rodgers and Chris Paul plan on putting the age old debate between football and basketball to rest the only logical way they can; on the golf course.

Rodgers and a roster of NFL players will take on Paul and his crew of NBA flunkies this summer as the two sides square off in “The Showdown,” a Ryder Cup-esque battle between the two sports. The two future Hall of Famers will serve as captains, leading their two sides in a match play showdown at the Mohegan Sun Golf Club in Uncasville, CT June 27-28.

The event will be streamed live at Bleacher Report. TNT will also air a one hour special featuring highlights from the tournament August 10.

“I couldn’t be more excited for ‘The Showdown’ this summer,” said Rodgers. “While the NFL and NBA are home to many of the greatest athletes in the world, a golf course is an entirely different battlefield. I am extremely passionate about golf, and look forward to assembling a team of the NFL’s top golfers to determine, once and for all, which league is truly top on the links.”

Rodgers could have an array of talented NFL veterans and alumni to choose from. Larry Fitzgerald is coming off a win at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. Tony Romo played his first PGA Tour event back in March, missing the cut after a second-round 82. Matt Ryan, Golf Digest estimates, has a near-scratch handicap.

But Paul will have some solid backup of his own. Steph Curry shot back-to-back 74s in his first professional outing, a stop on the Web.com tour. He also completely wrecked a hotel room with his swing a few months later. Ray Allen is a constant presence on the golf course, even during former teammate Paul Pierce’s jersey retirement ceremony. And Charles Barkley, uh, certainly does something you could charitably call golf every now and again.

There’s no word yet about “The Showdown”’s rosters, but we’ll keep you updated when we know more.
