Jeff Green’s buzzer beater miss might be the worst shot we’ve ever seen

We truly don’t understand how he missed this shot so badly.

Jeff Green’s buzzer beater to end the first quarter against the Indiana Pacers was the worst buzzer-beating attempt that I’ve ever seen. I’m serious. Before you accuse me of any exaggeration, please look at this attempt.

That’s bad. That’s really bad! I am not a person who likes to shame people for missed shots, and I don’t think that I’m attempting to shame Jeff Green here, either. He missed a shot, and his missed shot will be recorded like every other missed shot. In the box score, nobody knows if you missed a shot because it rimmed out or because you shot it over the backboard.

But, for the record, Jeff Green did indeed shoot this shot over the backboard. On an open, albeit rushed, 30-foot jump shot. He shot it ALL THE WAY OVER THE BACKBOARD. I am not shaming my man Jeff, but simply marveling that such a shot is even possible.

I would run off the court in fear if I ever had to play against actual NBA players, but even my mediocre YMCA-playing ass wouldn’t miss a 30-footer over the rim. I don’t think I could! That’s why I’m so impressed by Green’s shot. If you don’t believe me, send me an email and challenge me to do it, and I’ll send you video proof tomorrow. I legitimately don’t understand the physics behind Green’s miss — that’s why I’m so hung up on it.

Beyond that, Green is still playing successful NBA minutes against a very good first round opponent, so I will cede all other basketball skills to him. At halftime, he’s even a plus-seven, which is important for a Cavaliers team that desperately needs to generate success on the court that doesn’t include LeBron James.

Good luck, Jeff Green, and one day we might understand exactly how this shot happened.
